Outplacement (or out placement) services are offered by AccendoCV Career Management Services Ltd. We believe that two core elements are vital to employees being made redundant at any level in the organisation are:

  1. A fresh accurate and persuasive CV
  2. The knowledge of how best to use it

AccendoCV can provide these at a much lower cost than traditional outplacement consultancies. The service can be delivered -

a) by one or more senior AccendoCV consultants visiting your establishment and meeting your employees on a one to one basis. Counselling and gathering the required information from them (available only in the UK) on this occasion and subsequently filling in any gaps that may arise over the telephone. This works particularly well when there are a number of redundancies

b) online and by via one-to-one phone conversations with the employees if the numbers are small and where distances may be prohibitive

c) by a tailored combination of the above.

The Outplacement Industry had its heyday in the 80’s and 90’s and is still trading on its now traditional approach and business model.  Much of its mystique has gone. At one time adverts abounded suggesting that the outplacement business could teach people how to reach the unadvertised job market, making it sound like some sort of trade secret. The art of making direct approaches to companies and networking are now well understood. It takes only a few moments to bring people up to speed on how to do this – where to get the initial research, how to approach potential employers, how to network and how to do most of this online.

These outplacement companies have to carry the overheads associated with having large offices where they can invite redundant employees to undertake their research. The overheads being recovered via the pricing of the service – most of which is priced per person, is time limited and could well run to several tens of thousands of pounds.

A redundant person looking for a job must approach it in a business like manner –

  1. Defining his/her target job market
  2. Developing the primary tool with which to approach that market – the targeted CV
  3. Understanding the most effective channels to that target market
    1. Adverts
    2. Recruitment agencies
    3. Job boards
    4. Direct approaches
    5. Networking
  4. Carrying out required research
  5. Implementation:
    1. Scale
    2. Timing
    3. Amount of time per day
    4. Follow-up, follow-up, follow-up, follow-up

Employers often face the unpleasant but necessary task of reducing their staff numbers due to prevailing adverse market and economic conditions. Most modern, caring organisations recognise that they have a duty to their soon to be ex-employees and that the costs associated with carrying out these redundancies are not insignificant. Employers seek to provide outplacement support – frequently costing several thousands of pounds for each employee (ten thousand plus for senior people). As cost saving is frequently the business driver for the redundancies in the first place this is a bitter pill indeed for organisations to swallow.

A better and more cost effective solution is to provide people with the support they really need at less cost. Few people have their CV absolutely up to date, and even fewer feel that their existing CV will be effective. Most of us have a CV which has grown over time i.e. we have added bits as we have gone along. It is frequently not tailored for the purpose of the day. Redundant employees need a fresh and persuasive CV, one which they have ‘faith’ in and the knowledge of how to use it. AccendoCV can provide this and other career guidance services at far less cost than outplacement businesses.
